Contra

John has been at the forefront of the Contra Dance Revolution in the UK. Combining the physical exertions of the ceilidh with the smoothness and stamina of the American origin contra dance these dances have several distinguishing characteristics. The dances go on for at least twice as long as dances at a folk dance club, they include lots of swings, dances constantly change partners, there is lots of improvisation, eye contact etc etc. Americans often talk about a ‘Contra Dance Community’ and that is indeed what is happening here in the UK.

Overall it is an exhilarating experience that will never be forgotten and a revolution that is rapidly accelerating fuelled by an injection of American based talent including AIR- DANCE, LISA GREENLEAF, YANKEE INGENUITY, KATHY ANDERSON, THE GROOVE- MONGERS, KGB, CIS HINKLE, WILD ASPARAGUS etc etc.
